Northern Colorado Breweries Win Big at Great American Beer Fest

The Great American Beer Festival, hosted by the Brewers Association, was held this year September 24-26th. It is the largest of 4 commercially-held beer festivals and determines the standard for the best beers in America by featuring 92 categories. Three new categories this year are: Chili Pepper, Session IPA, and Mixed Culture Brett Beer. The GABF competition is highly regarded and drives the quality of craft beer to the limit. FORToberfest 2015

Fort Collins kicked off its fourth annual FORToberfest on Saturday morning with live music, food trucks, merchant booths, and a huge variety of local beer. This all-day street festival, though modestly sized, lacked none of the energy and charm we’ve come to expect from Ft. Collins events. Eleven local breweries trotted out their harvest-best, available in pints ($6) or flights of four 5oz tasters ($7).  From longstanding favorites like New Belgium and Odell to newcomers like Zwei and Rally King, the whole spectrum of Fort Collins’ beer scene brought something unique to the party. Plenty of sunscreen, and a hearty thirst are a must. Lederhosen are optional. Nothing Too Fancy–not just indie rock band Umphrey’s McGee’s record label. It’s now also a beer, made in collaboration with Boulder Beer Co. and Rock Brother’s Brewing, a Florida-based brewery specializing in collaborations with brewers across the nation.
